Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the South West Integrated Medicines Optimisation website.

We are committed to making our website accessible for all, and aim to achieve the standards described in the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

As a user with accessible needs, you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

If you have a disability, AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.

We know that some information on this website is not accessible to everyone:

  • Some of our policies and other publications are only available in PDFs which have not been produced to meet the latest accessibility standards.
  • Some images do not have appropriate alt descriptions.
  • Some pages don’t use the correct header classes.
  • Some links don’t use an accessible colour contrast.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

South West London Integrated Care System is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some of our content isn’t structured to allow someone using assistive technology to focus on the content most relevant to them.

Not all images on our website include the appropriate alternative text, so people with a visual impairment may not be able to access this content.

Some links used on our website don’t display in high contrast which may make them harder for some users to read.

There are some errors in the html code, which may make it more difficult for people using screen readers to navigate the site.

Some of our documents contain tables which may make the information difficult to access for people using assistive technologies.

Some of our policies feature complex diagrams and workflows but don’t include an accessible alternative.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs are essential to provide our services. For example, we have policies in PDF format with information on what medicines GPs can prescribe to their patients. We expect to replace these with accessible versions, or as html web pages, as they come up for review.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish are expected to meet accessibility standards, where it doesn’t represent a disproportionate burden.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are training anyone who produces policies, strategies or other published documentation on the latest legal requirements and provide guidance and training videos on how to produce content for our website in an accessible format. Our training materials are available to all staff via our staff intranet.

We maintain an accessibility log and provide plain English training to staff and content contributors.

We manually review the accessibility of our content every six months.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 30 September 2022.  It was last reviewed on 30th September 2022.

This website was last tested on 27 July 2022. The test was carried out by a specialist in accessible web design at MixD.

As websites are composed of many pages, it is impossible to test every single page manually. Because of this a representative page sample approach is taken. Critical path testing was performed on 8 pages and 2 PDF files.
